Have you ever heard of a child who performs miracles? This is Sara Russolillo’s second short film, winner of the Becoming Maestre competition, produced within Becoming Maestre, the mentoring and access-to-work initiative created by the Accademia del Cinema Italiano – Premi David di Donatello in partnership with Netflix. I had the honor of shooting the behind-the-scenes stills. I feel like I stole this photograph from her imagination, from her story. The child on the altar, turning to look at me—it’s as if, in that moment, he stepped out of the film without stepping out of character. After all, photography is also about stealing.
